Alkaline Diet Recommendations

With an alkaline diet craze sweeping the nation, we have decided to help you figure out the best way to intake alkaline foods. You must be aware that there are many foods which are alkaline, but it is important to know which food you can have in combination with other foods so that the result remains alkaline. For example, there are fruits, like grapefruit and oranges, which have to be eaten singly and not with any other food for them to have an alkaline effect on the body.

Foods like limes and tangerines are further examples items which must be eaten alone and not with any other. For any alkaline diet to work it is essential that you reduce the amount of acid forming food in your meals and snack bites. It is going to be difficult, but it is a must that you lower your intake of non-vegetable burger or sandwiches and replace it with a something vegetable; something which has more greens and little to no animal protein in it.

The Do’s of an Alkaline Diet

Eat as much of fresh green vegetables as possible. Some of the best include alfalfa, bamboo shoots, beans, cabbages, asparagus, celery, cauliflower, and carrots. Eat fruits that are fresh, especially watermelons (the highest in the alkali count), apples, avocados, pears, apricots, most types pf berries, guavas, dates, and currants. You can also have raisins, melons, pomegranates (also a rich source of iron), pineapples, pears and all other types of fruits.

However eating a watermelon is a must because amongst all foods it has the highest alkaline effect on the body. Dairy products that you can have are fresh buttermilk, yogurt, milk and whey. Amongst grains, you must consume millet of all types, amaranth, buck wheat and quinoa. With nuts, a handful of almonds, roasted chestnuts and fresh coconut kernel is highly recommended.

The Don’ts of an Alkaline Diet

Animal protein is the highest in the rank of acid production in the body, but there are also vegetables, fruits as well as nuts that seem alkaline but are acidic in terms of bodily utilization. These are beans (the dried ones), lentils and the white tipped asparagus. Among fruits, cranberries, any preserved fruit, blueberries, plums and prunes are harmful.

Cheese and butter are the worst amongst the dairy, along with any form of cooked or boiled milk. Creams and custards as literally poisons for the body and should be avoided at all costs. Most grains are acid producers and all types of alcoholic drinks are acidic as well. Vinegar, tobacco and all flavorings are also highly acidic.

However, even too much of alkaline food is not healthy since our body is only slightly alkaline. So you should have an alkaline diet chart comprising of all alkaline meals that are available to you with intervals of acidic food consumption so that the body pH balance is maintained and excess of acid is not formed.
